Rancho San Gregorio is a beautiful picturesque and historic rancho located in the high desert, eight miles southeast of the Mission San Borja de Adac in central Baja California. The location is 20 miles southwest (as the crow flies) of Bahía de Los Ángeles on the Sea of Cortez. Located in one of the canyons on the western slope of the peninsular mountains the ranch receives sea breezes coming up from the Pacific Ocean about 35-40 miles to the west. Located in the middle of the newly designated biological reserve region of the Valle of the Cirios, the ranch exemplifies the plant community of the unique and diverse Vizcaíno Desert. The air is pristine and the weather and climate are healthy for all life forms. Satellite photos demonstrate the clarity and qualities of this amazing region. The historic ranch with its two important wells supplying an abundant supply of exquisite artesian water has always been an important location to inhabitants of the region. The area is covered with artifacts from the era of the native peoples of Baja California. Since the mission period the primary residents of the rancho have been the familia Villavicencio that continue to be the primary stewards of the area today. Like most of the families that descended from the mission period the Villavicencios have a fascinating cultural history as members of the original californios of Baja California. A holistic health clinic operated by Rafael Galvan Villavicencio, a naturopathic doctor, is a central focus of activity on the ranch. Patients wishing to improve their state of health from a variety of conditions can come to the ranch for treatments varying in periods of time ranging from a week to months. These treatments involving diet, herbal medicines & teas, exercise, and life-style alterations can be transforming events in the lives of people. The program is very affordable and includes individuals from the region that may not have other alternatives to healthcare. The program's success rate for the participants is impressive. Other programs at the ranch include college educational groups dealing with desert ecology, cultural history, conservation, and sustainable environmental practices.
