Co-Director and Senior Ecologist
Lane McDonald is the Director of the Vermilion Sea Field Station and the Co-Director of Rancho San Gregorio and El Canto de la Tierra, A.C. Lane has a double master's degree from UCLA and was a college biology instructor for thirty-eight years specializing in marine biology and human ecology. He has taught field programs in Baja California since the early 1970s, and has also taken classes to the Virgin Islands, Tahiti, the Fiji Islands, New Zealand, and tropical Australia. Co-Director and Naturopathic Doctor
Rafael Galvan Villavicencio is the Co-Director of Rancho San Gregorio and El Canto de la Tierra, A.C. and our resident inspirational leader. Rafael is a holistic health doctor specializing in healthy lifestyle changes and herbal cures for various ailments. Rafael's family has lived at Rancho San Gregorio for over a century. He learned the art of healing from his grandmother, a Curandera (medicine woman), and in later formal training. Meghann McDonald has worked in the field with many educational groups and has the expertise to develop and coordinate field programs in the area. She holds a degree in Marine and Coastal Ecology from California State University, Monterey Bay, is a highly rated SCUBA instructor and Diving Emergency Specialist. Her research with commercially targeted fishes has made her one of the most knowledgeable people about their distribution near Bahía de Los Ángeles, and she knows a great deal about the ecosystems and species of Baja California. Geophysicist and Webmaster
Kyle McDonald, maintains the website for El Canto de la Tierra, serves as the resident expert on local terrain/trails. He holds a M.S. in Ocean Earth and Atmospheric Science and current work includes researching the geology /hydrology surrounding Rancho San Gregorio. Any questions regarding the website, requests for content, or geologic phenomenon along the Baja Peninsula should be directed to him.
Director of Information Technology and Communications
Dylan McDonald holds a M.S. in Computer Science from the Missouri University of Science & Technology and in charge of the information technology and communications infrastructure of El Canto de la Tierra. He is fluent in Spanish and grew up immersed in this area and enjoys responding to questions about the culture and people of the region.
