Song of the Earth
El Canto de la Tierra, Song of the Earth, is a non-profit organization located at the south end of the beach in Bahía de Los Ángeles, Baja California. Our aim is to develop balanced communities based on cultural traditions, environmental harmony, and a model of long-term sustainability.

We are very excited to say we have a new group of talented high school students from the Grauer School going down to the Vermilion Sea Field Station for a week-long class. We also now have a Facebook page for all our friends to network with us and each other! So please visit and become part of our ever expanding community. There will hopefully be lots of cool content coming to the website soon, starting with a new Programs page to showcase our past and current programs/groups we have hosted throughout the years.

The GPS/Google Earth files are now up for VSFS and Rancho San Gregorio. They include location of the facilities and special sites around the Ranch. In other news with El Canto de la Tierra, T-shirt designs are in the works (we're always accepting designs from friends! send them to Kyle) and 4 of the 5 field classes with Earth Expeditions with Miami Univeristy have gone swimmingly thus far this summer, with the 5th underway at the end of the month. Ocean Discoveries Institute students are currently at VSFS conducting their program as well. The Whale Sharks have been hanging out down in the Bay, much to the delight of both those programs. We are also very excited for a new group coming down this September led by education coordinator Meghann McDonald. More details on that later.

The discussion board and Visual sections are up with image galleries for Rancho San Gregorio and the Vermilion Sea Field Station!!! GPS data is soon to follow. So go to the discussion board, sign up, and start posting about whatever is on your mind. Feedback is always welcome, just contact Kyle if you want to see something different or new.
Also, we would like to issue a very special thanks to Kevan Morin for his help in getting the image gallery off the ground among other things. His website offers some thought provoking endeavors in the world of artistic pursuits.

El Canto de la Tierra just sent the education coordinator to attend the 7th annual World Community Conference, held last Saturday at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden! Over 200 people braved the cold for a half day of inspirational presentations, amazing animal ambassadors, and a wonderful opportunity to view the outstanding work of our 2010 Zoo and Earth Expeditioners, which showcased inquiry projects completed at the Zoo, in classrooms throughout the country, and at key conservation sites around the world. She presented an informational poster about what El Canto de la Tierra is about, work at Rancho San Gregorio and the Vermilion Sea Field Station as well as the Earth Expedition classes we hosted these past two summers! We thank everyone for their fabulous input and support from Project Dragonfly.
Meanwhile, others are helping to refine facilities at Rancho San Gregorio and the Vermilion Sea Field Station in Baja California. The computer czar has set up a wonderful new weather station on top of VSFS and that data should be available online soon! Our geoscientist is currently conducting field research in the Rancho San Gregorio area to discern attributes of the aquifer that feed the local spring. He is also working on developing research projects for the area.
